Come check out what your child is doing during math! Math is leveled at every student’s level. We will do a workshop model so you will be able to experience working with a teacher,problem solving, individual practice, math games and skills, along with technology. You will leave informed about the math workshop model, have tools to use at home, along with common math vocabulary.

The Health and Wellness Committee invites all members of the Greene community to an evening of health and wellness on Friday, November 16th. Family Health Night will include cooking demonstrations, family exercise classes, smoothies, health screenings and raffles. Please come and enjoy all the festivities!
Calling all scientists in grades K-5! Science Night is coming to Greene School on Wednesday, November 14th from 4:30 pm- 5:30 pm. There will be hands-on activities, raffle prizes, and experiments. There also will be special guests from Open Lands and Brookfield Zoo. A special prize will be given to the classroom with the best attendance for this night. Please download the flyer, fill it out, and return it to your child’s homeroom teacher.
Afterschool programming at Greene officially starts this Monday. Between our morning and afterschool offerings we have 20 different student programs including choir, guitar, yoga, Zumba, folkloric dance, art, girls leadership club, Math Club, Battle of the Books, among many others. Thanks to the efforts of Mr. Mike Ryan, Green’s Music teacher and Choir Director, Greene students now have access to acoustic guitars. Mr. Ryan wrote and received a grant from Little Kids Rock (http://www.littlekidsrock.
Greene’s Parent Committee will host Greene’s first annual Halloween Fest on Wednesday, October 31st at 4:30 pm. Come and play games, drink hot chocolate, and hear some scary stories. Entrance to the Fest costs $3 per person and can be paid at the door. All students will leave with a goodie bag.
On November 1st, Greene students will work with teachers, parent, and volunteers from the Kitchen Community to install raised garden beds in the South Play lot. The installation will take all day and involve preparing the beds for Spring planting. If you are a parent interested in helping out on November 1st, call (773) 535-4560 or stop by the front office before the end of the day on Tuesday.
The library and computer lab will be open on Monday and Tuesday of Intersession week from 10 AM – 12 PM.
Online registration for after school programming begins on Wednesday, October 10th. Students will be notified of acceptance into programs next week. Programming will begin the week we return from Intersession. You can access program descriptions on the After School Programs page. The online registration form will be available shortly.
As part of our Innovation Grant design partnership with Openlands (http://www.openlands.org/), Greene is working to design an outdoor space for raised garden beds on the concrete slab in the South play lot. The Kitchen Community (http://www.thekitchencommunity.org/) will be providing the raised beds, which should be at Greene by early November. We look forward to working with students and families in preparing the beds for planting this spring!
