Face-off your clutter … clear the zone … clean out your closets! Get the entire family involved in gathering gently-used clothes and household items, then go to any participating Goodwill Store & Donation Center between Monday, April 1 and Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Simply indicate your school name, city and number of items donated on the slip provided to you by the Goodwill Donation Attendant, and the school with the greatest number of items donated will receive a visit from Chicago Blackhawk Patrick Sharp. So far, Greene School has donated 350 pieces. Thank you to Ms. Ambriz who gave us a running start! Inspired by the Educate to Innovate Campaign, President Obama’s initiative to promote a renewed focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education, the National STEM Video Game Challenge is a multi-year competition whose goal is to motivate interest in STEM learning among America’s youth by tapping into students’ natural passion for playing and making video games. This year, the fifth graders at Greene are using Gamestar Mechanic to design their games for the STEM Video Game Challenge. Click on this link for some sample games. The deadline is May 1st.
Dr. Benjamin, the Surgeon General, visited Greene School! Dr. Benjamin toured the many healthy activities and resources at Greene. She participated in Folkloric Dance, four square, recess activities, along with tasting some of our healthy and delicious student prepared dishes. Thank you for visiting Greene!
Congratulations to Andrea Titsworth and Estefania Zavalija for winning the You & MeBook Writing Contest! Andrea and Estefania have each won a $500 Follett Library Resources eBook collection for the Greene School library. They have also personally won a $25 Barnes and Noble Gift card . Andrea also won the k-2 in the citywide competition! She won an additional $500 Follett Library Resources for Greene along with another $25 Barnes and Noble Gift card. Congratulations! We are very proud of your hard work! A special thank you to Ms. Szyman for turning their books into eBooks so they could be submitted!

The Dragons (Room 311) took on The Twisted Wizards (Room 306) for the 4-square championship. It was a close competition right up to the end. Congratulations to both teams for taking on the challenge. The Dragons worked together to defeat The Twisted Wizards.
Ms. Heidy’s classroom was awarded 3 Nook eReaders from Donors Choose! These Nook eReaders will allow her students to read and access books that they are interested in reading. The eReaders will be used as incentives and rewards for students who are pushing themselves towards higher academic standards within the classroom environment. Thank you for all those people who donated funds to make this happen.
